Random Name Picker

Draw a winner nobody can argue with

Questions

Frequently asked

Is my list uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything runs inside your browser — the file you import is read locally and no names are ever sent to a server. Your list is saved on your own device so it survives a page refresh, and Clear all removes it.

How random is the draw?

Each pick uses your browser's cryptographic random number generator rather than a simple pseudo-random function, and the result is mapped so that every remaining name has an equal chance. There is no weighting and no hidden order.

Can the same name be drawn twice?

Not by default. A name is removed from the pool the moment it is drawn. If you do want repeats — for example when picking a random speaker each day — turn on the option to put winners back in the pool.

Which file types can I import?

Excel workbooks (.xlsx and .xls), comma-separated files (.csv) and plain text (.txt). Names are taken from the first column of the first sheet, and a header row like "Name" is skipped automatically.

What happens to duplicates in my list?

Exact duplicates are merged when the list loads so one person doesn't get two chances by accident. If you want deliberate duplicate entries — a raffle where extra tickets mean better odds — add a number to each line, like "Priya 1" and "Priya 2".

Can I undo a pick?

Yes. Undo last returns the most recent winner to the pool and removes them from the results. Reset draw clears every winner and puts the whole list back.
