My code has too many tiny boxes — how do I make it simpler?
The number of boxes is decided by how much content goes in. Set Strength to Compact, which drops the grid by two or three rows, and keep the destination address short — every character you remove makes the squares bigger. The readout under the preview shows the current grid and the smallest width you can safely print it at.
How much damage can a QR code survive?
Up to about 30% at the highest level, which is the ceiling written into the QR standard — no generator can go beyond it. Rugged uses that maximum. Balanced recovers around 25% and Compact around 7%. Damage spread across the code recovers better than a single hole, and the three corner squares must always stay clean.
Can a QR code open a PDF?
Yes. Choose the PDF type and upload the file. The code points at a page on this site that shows the document in the browser and offers a download button, so anyone can read it without an app.
Is this QR code generator really free?
Yes. Generating codes, hosting the uploaded files, downloading the images and viewing scan analytics all cost nothing. There is no trial period, no watermark and no card required.
Do the codes ever expire?
No. Once a code is created it keeps working for as long as the service runs. Text, Wi-Fi, vCard and payment codes hold their data inside the image itself, so they work even without internet.
Will a logo in the middle stop it scanning?
No. The logo is sized against the strength you picked — about a fifth of the width on Rugged, much smaller on Compact — so it never eats more recovery than the code has to spare. Test one print before ordering a thousand, as you would with any code.
What size should I download for printing?
Use 1024 px for flyers and product labels, 2048 px or the SVG for posters and banners. The readout gives a minimum width for the current grid; as a rule the printed code should be at least 2 cm wide for every metre of scanning distance.
Does a Wi-Fi QR code share my password?
The password is written inside the code so phones can join automatically, and it is never stored on our server. Anyone who scans the printed code can read that password, so use it for guest networks rather than your private one.
